Ciba-Geigy Superfund Site
Toms River, NJ
Manufacturing at the Site included the production of a variety
of dyestuffs, pigments, epoxy resins, additives, and miscellaneous specialty
chemicals until 1996, when production ceased at the facility. The Remedial Design Work Plan through the final
design, including regulatory review, was achieved in one year. Drum removal activities and
construction of biotreatment facilities are completed. |

Pennsylvania Act 2 Projects
Various locations in Pennsylvania
In Phoenixville, Advanced GeoServices developed a strategy for
closure of a pump and treat system at a former manufacturing facility. The
Final Report presented the anisotropy analysis and allowed the client to turn
off the groundwater extraction and treatment system, which had been operating
for over seven years, saving the client an estimated $100,000 per year. In
Lancaster, a college wanted to convert a former scrap yard into athletic
fields. Advanced GeoServices prepared a Cleanup Plan which was approved by PADEP without comments. In Oaks, a former metal fabrication facility needed
three surface impoundments cleaned and closed. The Final Report was approved
without comment and the site has been redeveloped into a commercial facility. |

Burgess Battery Site Freeport, IL
This abandoned dry cell battery manufacturing facility stored
large quantities of drummed and packaged hazardous materials on site. All waste has been removed from the site and the buildings have
been decontaminated and demolished. Illinois EPA approved Advanced
GeoServices’ groundwater modeling in support of a natural attenuation remedy.
A No Further Remediation for the site was approved by Illinois EPA in 2003. |

RFIs at Smelting & Refining Sites
Various locations nationwide
Industrial operations are often required to conduct RCRA Facility
Investigations (RFI) as a condition of their RCRA permit. The scope of such an
investigation is dictated by the findings of the facility assessment process.
Advanced GeoServices has worked with facility personnel to develop a scope and
level of detail for RFI, commensurate with the complexity of their individual
site. Investigation activities have included air deposition modeling;
statistical evaluations (kriging); soil, sediment, surface water, and
groundwater sampling; geophysical surveys; lead paint screening; air quality
sampling; ecological exposure assessments; and human exposure assessments.
Advanced GeoServices has successfully negotiated with state and federal
agencies on behalf of our clients. |

Specialty Chemical Sites
various locations across the nation
Advanced GeoServices was able to double the operating life of the
impoundments at several dyestuffs manufacturing facilities. In one instance,
we designed a new wastewater treatment system to utilize aboveground tanks,
allowing for the decommissioning of the lagoons. In another, we made the site layout
more efficient and improved the control of site stormwater. |

Gould Superfund Site Portland, OR
Operations occurred for over 30 years at a former lead-acid
battery recycling site and secondary lead smelter. Portions of the site were
filled with battery casing material as well as matte and slag from the
smelting activities. A remnant of East Doane Lake contained sediments with
elevated levels of lead and organics. Advanced GeoServices designed and oversaw
the construction of an on-site containment facility for
sediments dredged from East Doane Lake and additional contaminated material. |
